Back in the hospital, sucking down fluids thru the IV

I got all settled in to a new room at the hospital late last night. Apparently lots of folks choose to have elective surgery at the beginning of the new year. They are expecting me to stay for 2-3 days. That kind of put a wrench in the works for Barb Perrin to come stay with me, but she may come East on Wednesday.

The good news is that since I've been having the IV, I'm no longer dizzy when I try to get up, and I don't get the blood rushing head aches. Life is better!

Did I mention that Patty Kirkley got the Saint of the week award during my stay? I won't gross y'all out by telling you why, but rest assured, she deserved it!!!! Both Patty and Ken were wonderful hosts. I felt TOTALLY pampered and spoiled! I could get use to this!!!!!

Hugs,

Jennie

  2. Jennie, you freshly hydrated slimlette! Thank goodness for IV's! It's amazing what a litle water in your system (or the lack of it) will do to you. What are we? Around 60% water, I think? Walking puddles! I just read under "water" in Wikipedia (the source of all wisdom)that the major part of our water intake normally comes from the food we eat, not from what we actually drink. All that moist stuff that you can't tolerate at the moment is bound up with lots of water, as much as 3-6 liters for a normal diet. Which might partly account for your dehydration now. Dear, finicky one, enough with the diet already! What might those of us with a bent for cooking bring to tempt you, in the hospital or out of it? Speak please, on this blog for all of us, or by phone (919-812-9275) or e-mail to long0024@mc.duke.edu . If we go the blog route then cooks need to post and check before cooking. From you, dear Jen, a plain, short wish list is enough communication. Conservation of energy is good. No niceties or sweet nothings desired! Lots of them go in your direction, though, with love and a gentle hug to this new, very slim person, Cosi

  3. Jennie, I was disappointed to learn that you had a bit of a "relapse" -- but take heart! This too shall pass. I have a hard time remembering that after my surgery, I was thin and 20 pounds lighter than I am now. I don't know what your dietary tastes are, but I remember that I liked "breakfast" at every meal...and scrambled eggs and English muffins with cream cheese was my favorite fare for a long time afterwards. And bananas. Oh, I do so wish I could be there with you...even just to talk. Do not get discouraged! You will make it!!

  4. Jennie, Oops! I'm sorry -- my comment was just posted as Anonymous! Nonsense! I'm anything but...and you know me better as Jane, your long-distance colon (or lack of) guru.
